god’s goodness (Psalm 145; Genesis 33)
The goodness of God refers not just to what He does but also
who He is.
God is the source of all good, and He alone defines what is
good and holy.
The goodness of God defined
God is “good” in His whole nature. Nothing can be added Him
better. God is the final standard of good. This means that
God is the final standard of good. He defines what goodness
is. God’s goodness extends all across His creation (Genesis
1:31).
A. God is Good in His Provision of Physical Needs
God is good in His provision (Genesis 1:29-30). Our Lord
Jesus Christ assures that that God “knoweth that [we] have
need of all these [physical] things” (Matthew 6:32)
+
Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His
righteousness; and all these things that we need shall be
added unto us (Matthew 6:33)
B. God is Good in His Provision of Emotional Needs
God provides for our emotional needs. God provided a help
meet for Adam. God also provides life partners, friends,
children (Proverbs 18:22;
Psalm 113:9).
+
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and
cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning. (James 1:17)
C. God is Good in His Provision of Spiritual Needs
God provides for our spiritual needs. God gave us His best
in His Son (Romans 8:32). The goodness of God is
demonstrated by the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
+
The
goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance (Romans 2:4b)
the goodness of god applied
In Genesis 32 God had just punished the children of Israel
because they had committed idolatry in worshipping the
golden calf. Following that, God renewed the covenant with
the children of Israel. Moses made a request to God, “Shew
me thy glory” (Exodus 33:18).
God replied, “I will make all my goodness pass
before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before
thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and
will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy” (Exodus 33:19).
If we would have the desire of Moses, we must first
be overwhelmed by His goodness at a place that He has
appointed. “And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by
me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock” (Exodus 33:21). The
rock is a type of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:4).
+
God
reveals His glory and goodness in Christ and those who are
in Christ.
CONCLUSION
“There is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock.”
That is an invitation.
+
Friend, for any man to meet God and not be judged is to hide
in the cleft of the Rock. Make Christ your hiding place.
+
Christian. We need to pray Moses’ prayer – Show me thy glory
(Exodus 33:18) – and have the desire. |
