God tested Abraham’s faith to sacrifice his son Isaac on
Mount Moriah. Abraham obeyed God’s Word setting the stage
for the unfolding drama of the Great Love of the Holy God
for depraved sinners. It illustrates the Great Sacrifice the
Lord Jesus Christ was willing to pay to be the Substitute
for our sins on the cross in order to save us wretched
sinners from eternal damnation and to reconcile us to God.
Outline
Isaac’s question
– “Where Is The Lamb For A Burnt Offering?” presents the key
to the Gospel message for every hearer.
-
It is asking – “How can I approach the Almighty and Holy
God to worship Him acceptably?”
-
It focuses on the Holy Character of God. The
sacrifice and blood of an unblemished lamb is required
to approach God.
-
It convicts us of the Great Need to be saved. As
sinners separated from the Holy God because of our sins,
we are doomed for eternal damnation in hellfire. So how
to be saved? Go back to Isaac’s query.
-
It reveals the Great Love of God.
This is illustrated by Abraham’s love for his son Isaac and
willingness to obey God’s Word by giving him up as a
sacrifice. John 3:16. Abraham was only called upon to offer
his son Isaac. God stopped him before he could plunge the
knife into Isaac. But when the time came for God to offer
His Eternal Son on Calvary, the hand that was poised above
Him fell. Romans 8:32 “He that spared not his own Son, but
delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also
freely give us all things?”
-
It shows the Great Love of Christ for us sinners.
This is illustrated by Isaac. Isaac (probably 15 years of
age) knew he was the sacrifice and did not run away when his
father bound him and placed him on the altar upon the wood.
Jesus was willing to lay down His life for our sins
-
It leads to Faith in God that GOD WILL PROVIDE.
Abraham believed that somehow God will provide a sacrifice
for his son Isaac. And even if Isaac were to die, Abraham
believed that God can miraculously raise him up – Alive!
That is why he told his servants in v.5 that he and Isaac
“will come again to you”. Also, he told Isaac in v.8 “My
son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering.”
God provided a ram to take the place of Isaac the sacrifice.
Believe that God has already provided the sinless, perfect
sacrifice in Jesus Christ who died in our place on the
cross.
True believing goes beyond head knowledge.
Are you prepared to give to God what is the most precious to
you, even your very life? Who is more important – God
Himself or God’s Gift?
Are you prepared to put God first, repent of your sins and
truly accept Christ as your Saviour and follow Him the rest
of your life, walking in obedience to His Word, come what
may?
-
Great lessons on Faith in God – The proof of true belief
and faith is a life-long walk with God trusting Him and
obeying His Word.
