I.
The Role of the Prophet
A.
The Distinction of the Prophetic Office – a special and
sacred office called and ordained by God. Prophets are
representatives of God as His mouthpiece in delivering God’s
message to His people (e.g. the other two special offices –
kings and priests).
B.
The Delivery of the Prophetic Office:
i.
Isaiah
– called to walk naked and barefooted (Isa 20:3-4).
ii.
Ezekiel
– called to bake bread with human dung (Ezek 4:12-13).
C.
The Demand of the Prophetic Office – perfect obedience unto
God.
D.
Apply:
The Word of God demands perfect obedience – obedience must
come before sacrifice (1Sam 15:22).
II.
The Relationship of Love
A.
The Relationship of Hosea and Gomer – Hosea was called:
i.
To take the harlot Gomer as his beloved wife (Hos 1:2).
ii.
To redeem Gomer with love from her adulterous ways (Hos
3:1).
B.
The Relationship of God and His People – God took Israel and
loved her as His wife but yet Israel had forsaken the Lord
and played the harlot and went after idols:
C.
The Love of God – unconditional and matchless. God loves us
and has sent His only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ to
die for us to redeem our lives (John 3:16).
D.
Apply:
Respond to the love of God by obeying Him and to love and
serve Him with all our heart, mind, strength and soul.
III.
The Return unto God
A.
A Time of Quarantine – Israel shall be without the monarchy,
priesthood, idolatry and counsel of God.
B.
A Time of Restoration – in the last days, God would turn
away the ungodliness of Israel and all Israel shall be saved
(Rom 11:25-27).
C.
Apply:
Do not despise divine discipline. When God disciplines
His children, He designs it so that good may come out of it
(Heb 12:11-12; Rom 8:28). |
