Thank God for another
opportunity to help
Vietnam Gospel Outreach
Dear fellow Calvarians and friends,
In November 2005, a mission door was opened
in
Ho
Chi Minh City. Spearheaded
by the CMF, support was given to Phan and his wife Hao in their call
to reach out to workers
in that city with the Gospel. We are pleased to share with you that
in a short period of less than 3 years, by God’s grace, the Gospel
work in Ho Chi Minh City is thriving.
Now, on every Lord’s Day, around 46 workers gather for worship. A
mission kindergarten has also been established. Thank God that the
enrolment has increased from 18 (when it first started) to 70 with
some on wait list. And about a year ago, a hostel ministry was
started for workers and students. Currently, the hostel is providin g
accommodation to 9 workers and 8 students. From the 8 students
staying hostel, the ministry has developed into a students’
fellowship group with an average attendance of 16 students. We are
also greatly encouraged to learn that 18 adults are attending
theology classes. Some of them have indicated their desire to serve
God fulltime.
We thank the Lord for His grace upon our mission couple. We also
thank Him for your prayer and financial support. With the
kindergarten at full enrolment, the fees collected are supporting
the running of the mission and the expenses of Phan and Hao, with
some extras. As a result, the financial support given to Phan and
Hao is now channelled to the hostel ministry and a part-time
theology class.
In a
recent review by CMF on the progress of the work there, it was found
that one of the challenges is increasing rental resulting in having
to relocate the kindergarten and hostel each time the rental
contract expires. The constant relocation will be detrimental to the
progress of the ministries. After much prayer and deliberation, it
was decided to purchase a property to house the kindergarten, hostel
and theology class.
At the session meeting on 21 May 2008, the recommendation by CMF to
begin a building fund for the purchase was approved unanimously.
Session also appointed a building committee to oversee the project.
By God’s grace we hope to raise $250,000 by mid 2010 for the
purchase.
God willing, Phan will join us for the family camp in Kuantan. For
those of us who have not met him before, it is a good opportunity to
know him and the ministries he and
his wife are involved in Vietnam. He will be giving us an update
during the Worship Service on 15 June 2008.
Let us all continue to pray for the Gospel work in Vietnam and the
building fund and continue to do what we can to help in the
extension of God’s kingdom there.
