Report for the first six month of the Vietnamese ministry

January - June 2007

We thank God for what he has done in our life and ministry. Now, we review for the first six months; first is to thank God and second, to let you know about the work which you have faithfully supported for the past one and a half years.

1.         The Kindergarten:

                        K2                                                               K2

Though we have gone through many difficulties and hardship, we thank the Lord for His faithfulness and mercy through which He has helped us thus far. Since the very beginning, we had struggled how to manage it well. Without any experience, when we started the kindergarten, but thank God that he still entrusts us the ministry. Looking back the ministry, we have some achievements as following:

                             K1                                                     K1

a.     The goal of the ministry, to share the Gospel to parents and children and to make finance for the ministry, is not changed. We have shared the Good News of Jesus to many parents, some have gladly received but some rejected. But we keep on doing so till the Lord comes. Though, there is no fruit of the Gospel from the kindergarten yet, but we have sown the seed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that in God’s time, they will be prosperous and bring forth fruits.

b.     The Motto of the Kindergarten is to “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6).

Beside their daily schedule and compulsory curriculum from the MOE of Vietnam, we have given children many lessons from the Bible stories and Christian songs, hoping that they may know and except Christ in the years to come.

c.     The Quantity: The number of the children has been increased. In the first year, there were 17 – 39 pupils, but now the number of the pupils is 55. Though there were many times the number was up and down, but thank God from time to time, it is now more stabilized. The number is about 60 pupils in registration, but the regular number of those coming to class is 55 pupils. It made the kindergarten break even and balance in daily expenses, but thank God that Calvary still support partially for the second year.

d.      The Finance: And to the financial aspect, we have achieved as we have planned that is to support us and the ministry. Please continue to pray for the kindergarten that it will grow more and more and make profits from it for the ministry of the gospel.

2.        The Hostel ministry:

We thank God that, when Rev James Chan and Dn Peter Goh came to visit us in the year 2006 and they had given us a thought how to start hostel ministry. Since then, I have looked for the location and searched out the needed information. Some times, it seemed that this ministry would not be able to put in action, but thank God that it was started in March 2007.

We have rented a house for the meeting of the Sunday Night Fellowship and at the same time we let some brothers and sisters stay in so that we can have a place to worship and share the rental. There are 8 brothers and sisters now who are staying in the hostel. Among them there were 4 new converts and one unbeliever (a sister of 2 new converts). They have their Bible study 3 nights a week excluded Sunday night meeting. One of them is very keen to the service of the Lord, and we have been helping him 100.000 VND per month for his fuel to do the work of the following up new converts.

Our goal of this hostel is to edify the brothers and sisters in the fellowship, to disciple them for the ministry so that they can make disciples for Christ.

3.        The Sunday Night Fellowship Ministry:

The Sunday Night Fellowship (SNF) is our main ministry. Any other activities are to assist and to make the SNF to grow. We also thank God for helping us in this ministry. From time to time the Lord has brought people to in our midst. Looking back for the first six months of 2007, we can only say that without the Lord’s help, we can do nothing (John 15:5), but we can do all those things through Christ who has strengthened us (Phil 4:13).

The Fellowship

-          The regular number of the people coming to the meeting is varied from 20-25. However, when it is heavy rain the number is down. Now is a rainy season, so please pray that they will be matured enough to go to the fellowship despite the rain.

-          We have formed a team of Evangelism (E band). The team goes out every Saturday Evening to visit and to share the Gospel. Thank God through the team, the Lord has brought many of them to the fellowship. Please pray that the Lord will open the people’s heart so that they will be willing to hear the Gospel and accept Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

b.      What have been aimed but not yet done

-        The registration of the ministry: We have asked the pastor of the church to apply for us but until now, the work is not yet done. Though we have informed the local authority personnel orally that we have this meeting, but we need to have a written permission from them. It was nearly one year. Do pray that the Lord moves to the pastor’s heart so that he puts forth his hand to register the ministry.

-        The goal of the evangelism was not fully achieved due to lacking of concentration. Please pray that the Lord will help us through the end of this year we can do it more to achieve what we have planned.

c.       What are expected to be achieved?

-          Building up the body of Christ: Paul’s Ministry and motto is ours as we are striving to present every one of them in the fellowship mature in Christ. Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus Colossians 1:28.

-          Besides, my ministry is to edify the saints and feed the flock that God has entrusted to me so that they will be mature in the knowledge of Christ.

Ephesians 4:11-16   And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;  12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:  13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:  14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;  15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:  16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

1 Peter 5:1-3  The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:  2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;  3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

-          Evangelism: We continue to do the work of evangelists to share the good news of Jesus. To do so, I have a series of messages aiming on personal evangelism exhorting them to share Christ in the life at any time. Moreover, we are going to organize some out door activities and invite people to the gospel meeting to hear the Gospel’s Messages. Through these activities, we pray that the Lord will save some.

-          Registration of the Fellowship: We continue to pray and work on the registration of the work as soon as possible. I intended to ask the representative of the church in Ho Chi Minh to register the ministry so that we can freely worship and serve Christ.

2.            Teaching/Theological Class:

I am being invited to be a guest lecturer of some training, so I have to be out of town once a month to do training. But seeing the need of the ministry that the Lord has entrusted to me to serve Him and feed them, I have a plan to have training for workers for the work here in our church and ministry. I intend that on the last Saturday of Oct, 2007 (Oct 27, 2007), I am going to start the theological class for leaders and lay-workers of the church. This class is held once a month comprised of 15-20 persons who are leading persons from church and the fellowship so that they are equipped to serve Christ even better and more effectively.

This is the beginning of the theological school in the future, where we can be partnership in teaching. Then we will invite some of you to come and help us in teaching and training us in the Word of God.

The project for the first year as following:

a.      The purpose of the class: to equip and to train worker for the work and the service of the Lord. From this class, we will find some of them to serve in the ministry.

b.      The Curriculum: We will teach them in the Basic Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Church History, Evangelism … This will help them have a basic knowledge so that they can serve Christ in these last days.

c.       The Duration: This is long-life learning for every one who wants to serve Christ.

d.      The Time: It is held every last Saturday of the month for the whole day.

  1. Other ministry:

Beside my ministry, I am invited to be guest lecturer to a Bible school in a province, where I teach them on the New Testament books and English. Here are some of photos.

May the Lord continue to bless you and your church so that through you many will come to Christ and be saved.
