Praise God for the 32
participants who turned up that day. We thank God for a wonderful
time of learning and sharing. Many hands had lightened the load in
organising. God had also blessed each one of us with all readiness
of mind to learn.
Mrs Shirley Lee was our
main speaker and the first session was on “Vocal Training.” She
pointed out that when we are singing, our whole being is praising
God. In order to sing out that beautiful voice, we need to use the
4-step technique: inhale; suspension; control escalation and
recovery. For the first time, we practiced the proper way of
breathing and control of our voice when singing.
Following that, we had our main message on “MINISTRY THAT IS
FANNED INTO FLAME” with the text taken from 2 Timothy 1:6-7.
This was related to the theme of HF year 2008: “Stand Fast” (Gal
5:1). “For brethren, ye have been called unto liberty;...but by
love serve one another” (Gal 5:13). She exhorted that our hearts
should be “fanning hot” to serve the Lord with three pointers.
1. God gave us not the
spirit of fear but of Power
2. God gave us a
spirit of Love
3.
God gave us a Sound mind (Self-discipline)
She
challenged us not to lose heart in our faith and never be lacking in
zeal to serve Him.
After the lunch break,
we had Usher Training by brother Willie Quek. This is an important
ministry because an usher is the first to greet and welcome the
worshippers and newcomers. The purpose is to train the members to
serve God in this ministry. We had role play which was fun and
practical, reinforcing what we had learnt.
We also had workshop on
Prayer, Bible Study and Counselling in three groups. We benefited
from each session and some were moved to tears when the Word of God
was shared. The workshop ended with a session of prayer by all
members, followed by a closing note and prayer by Pastor Isaac.

After
a day of study, we had a garden walk at Lakeside Park. As we walked,
some rendered songs of praise to God, which could be heard from a
far distance. The retreat concluded with dinner fellowship with the
Elders. This was to give the HF members an opportunity to know the
BOE. We truly thank the Lord for providing good weather and smooth
transitions between each session. Some members had asked when will
be the next retreat.
All
praise and glory be unto His Holy Name!
